Chief Conductor

With her musical enthusiasm, Alena Hron is winning over musicians not only at home in the Czech Republic, but gradually also abroad. From the 2024/25 season she will become the chief conductor of the South Bohemian Philharmonic. At the beginning of 2024, she also won the Marin Alsop "Taki Alsop Conducting Fellowship", which offers two years of systematic support and new opportunities for cooperation with orchestras abroad.

She has worked with most of the symphony orchestras in the Czech Republic. Prague FOK, Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra, Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava, PKF - Prague Philharmonia, Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Zlín, Hradec Králové Philharmonic, Pilsen Philharmonic, West Bohemian Philharmonic Mariánské Lázně and others. Her debut at the Prague Spring International Festival 2023 was a great success. She has performed with the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra in Berlin and Paris and has also recorded a complete orchestral work by the Czech composer Vítězslava Kapralová. Together with Jakub Hrůša, she conducted orchestral concerts at the Ševčík Academy in Horažďovice in the summers of 2022 and 2023. She has worked with soloists such as Ivan Klánský, Josef Špaček, Wies de Boewé, Jan Mráček, Tomáš Jamník, Jan Fišer, Kateřina Kněžíková and Veronika Rovná.

Alena Hron's international guest appearances have taken her to the Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie Konstanz, the Göttinger Symphonie orchester, the Collegium Musicum Basel orchestra and the State Philharmonic Košice.

He also profiles in theatre. In 2023, she assisted Kaspar Zehnder in a new production of Rusalka at the Met, and at the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre she staged a new production of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake. At the Silesian Theatre Opava she was the second conductor of Verdi's Rigoletto during 2022 and also staged the successful musical Funny Girl there in 2021. In 2018 she conducted at the F. X. Puccini's La Bohème.

She co-founded and until the end of the 2021/22 season artistically directed the chamber choir Punkt, focusing on contemporary music. Under her direction, the ensemble won several awards at prestigious international competitions. In the 2021/22 season she collaborated with the Prague Philharmonic Choir.

In June 2024, Alena Hron completed her second master's degree at the prestigious Zürcher Hochschule der Künste in the class of Christoph-Mathias Mueller and Johannes Schlaefli. During her studies she conducted orchestras in Konstanz, Amiens, Göttingen, Nuremberg, Magdeburg and Thessaloniki. She graduated in conducting at the Prague Conservatory (Miriam Němcová, Hynek Farkač, Miroslav Košler) and at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (Tomáš Koutník, Leoš Svárovský, Zbyněk Müller). She spent a year at the Norges musikkhøgskolev Oslo (Ole Kristian Ruud, Sigmund Thorp).

She has also participated in conducting masterclasses under Vasili Petrenko, Christian Ehwald, Stefan Parkman and Greta Pedersen.

Alena plays the violin, piano and sings, presenting her original work.
